S7 Heat Treat Process


Here is a general guide to heat treating S7 tool steel.

Hardening Heat material to 1725/1750F (orange color) and air quench. Typically in our shop we use a fan to move air across the material to quench the steel. S7 may also be oil quenched to attain the material’s full hardness.

Temper

S7 tempers above 350F (straw color). Heat and air cool to room temperature.
